Sushmita Dev, who resigned from the Congress party, joined the All India Trinamool Congress on Monday afternoon. Sushmita Dev was the president of the Congress’s women’s wing.
She joined the Trinamool Congress in the presence of party leaders Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O’Brien.
In her resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the former Assam MP is said to have written that she will begin ‘a new chapter of public service’.
Confirming the development, All India Trinamool Congress in a tweet said, “We warmly welcome the former President of All India Mahila Congress @sushmitadevinc to our Trinamool family! Inspired by @MamataOfficial, she joins us today in the presence of our National General Secretary @abhishekaitc & Parliamentary Party Leader, Rajya Sabha, @derekobrienmp.”
While reacting to Sushmita Dev’s exit from the Congress, senior leader Kapil Sibal said that the party leadership is moving on with “eyes wide shut”.
“Sushmita Dev Resigns from primary membership of our Party While young leaders leave we ‘oldies’ are blamed for our efforts to strengthen it The Party moves on with: Eyes Wide Shut,” Sibal tweeted.
