Several killed after speeding truck hits bus in UP’s Barabanki; PM announces ex-gratia

At least 18 people were killed and several injured after a bus was hit by a speeding truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki early on Wednesday. 

The accident took place on the Ayodhya-Lucknow highway, where the double-decker bus was parked at the roadside following a breakdown. 

According to the reports, there were about 140 people on the bus. All of them were labourers who were travelling from Haryana to Bihar.

According to the reports, the bus was stationed at a dhaba near Ram Sanehi Ghat police station after its axle broke down. A speeding truck came and rammed into the bus, killing 18 people on the spot.

UP Police in a tweet said, “Pained to know about the unfortunate demise of people in a tragic road accident in Barabanki. Police & administration have quickly carried on relief work & transported the injured to the hospital. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

PM Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in Barabanki, He has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident in Barabanki. 

A PMO tweet said, “PM @narendramodi announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident in Barabanki. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 each.”
