‘I still stand with farmers’: Greta Thunberg on Delhi Police FIR

The Delhi police on Thursday filed an FIR against climate activist Greta Thunberg for her tweets on the ongoing farmers’ protest at Delhi borders.

Shortly after the FIR was registered, Thunberg tweeted saying, “I still #StandWithFarmers and support their peaceful protest. No amount of hate, threats or violations of human rights will ever change that.”

In her first tweet, Greta Thunberg wrote “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India” and shared a CNN article on the ongoing farmers’ protest in India.

Her tweet came soon after pop star Rihanna wrote on social media, “Why aren’t we talking about this?”

On Wednesday, Thunberg shared a document on the agitation saying, “Here’s an updated toolkit by people on the ground in India if you want to help. (They removed their previous document as it was outdated.) #StandWithFarmers #FarmersProtest.”

The Ministry of External Affairs yesterday issued a statement saying that it is “unfortunate” that some vested groups are trying to enforce their agenda on these protests, and trying to derail them.

“Before rushing to comment on such matters, we would urge that the facts be ascertained, and a proper understanding of the issues at hand be undertaken. The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible,” the statement said.
